Drivers will need to find an alternate route or pack their patience as a multi-day road closure on Philip Aziz Avenue at Western University is set to begin on Monday. According to a news release from the City of London, Philip Aziz Avenue will be temporarily closed at the intersection of Western Road on Monday for site preparations ahead of the planned reconstruction of Philip Aziz Avenue and Western Road in 2026. The road closure is anticipated to last until Dec. 18. The city advises drivers who are accessing Western to consider using Lambton Drive and to expect delays when traveling in the area. “Please plan accordingly and give yourself a little extra time,” the city said. “Signage will direct drivers to alternate routes.” Some trees will be removed along Philip Aziz Avenue to allow for the larger construction project to begin in the spring. However, the advance work is weather dependent. The city says the work in 2026 will improve safety along the corridor through the addition of extended turning lanes for drivers, wider pedestrian crossings, new cycling lanes, and constructing watermains and storm sewers underground. Tree replanting will take place after construction has been completed. More information on the planned Philip Aziz and Western Road reconstruction project can be found online.
