Two drivers were taken to hospital following a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 401 near Woodstock on Monday afternoon. OPP, Oxford County Fire Services and Oxford County Paramedic Services responded to the crash in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Towerline Road at about 2 p.m. Police said the passenger vehicle collided with a commercial motor vehicle, known as a crash truck, which are often placed in highway work zones. A crash truck is a specialized heavy-duty vehicle equipped with a large rear cushion designed to absorb the kinetic energy of an oncoming vehicle during a collision The lone occupant of the passenger vehicle was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the crash truck, who was the lone occupant of that vehicle, was also taken to hospital as a precaution. The cause of the collision has not been released. OPP said further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
