Record-breaking number of babies born at LHSC last year

A record-breaking number of babies were born last year at London-Health Sciences Centre (LHSC).

The record now sits at 6,636, up from 6,452 in 2024.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our second consecutive year of delivering a record number of babies at LHSC,” said Shannon Maier, vice president of Children’s Hospital, Women’s Care, Quality, Risk, and Pharmacy.

“Our priority is delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care, and our teams continue to demonstrate exceptional professionalism and commitment to supporting families during a special moment in their lives.”

Of the 6,636 babies, 144 were sets of twins and three sets were triplets. The average number of babies born in a day at LHSC is 18, with the most in one day reaching 30.

“Managing this level of births takes highly coordinated teams who anticipate, adjust, and work as one,” Maier said.

“Their commitment makes achievements like this possible, and it will be exciting to see whether 2026 becomes another history-making year for our birthing program.”
