An 86-year-old man has died following a collision involving a pickup truck outside a Stratford shopping mall on Sunday. Stratford Police Service said emergency crews responded to the mall’s front entrance at approximately 11:08 a.m. on Aug. 16. General patrol officers, Stratford Fire Department personnel and Perth County paramedics attended the scene following reports of a serious collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian. According to police, it was determined that a pickup truck had entered the parking lot where it struck a pedestrian near the SportChek entrance to the mall. The Stratford Fire Department assisted with removing the pedestrian from under the pickup truck and the pedestrian was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Later that evening the Stratford Police Service was notified that the pedestrian had passed away as a result of the injuries. The pedestrian was identified as an 86-year-old resident of Stratford, while the driver of the pickup truck has been identified as a 38-year-old resident of St Catharines. The investigation is ongoing.
