A driver is facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing into a pedestrian at a Huron County intersection and refusing to give police their licence earlier this week. According to a news release, just after 3 p.m. on April 22, Huron County OPP and paramedics responded to the intersection of Smith Street and Ontario Street in Clinton. Emergency responders located one person who had been struck by a passenger vehicle. Police say they were transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to London where their injuries were deemed serious, but non-life threatening. The involved vehicle driver remained at the scene. On Friday the 41-year-old driver from Huron East was charged with the following offences: The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich at a later date. Police are once again reminding drivers that crosswalks are placed in specific locations to allow for safe roadway crossings for pedestrians and cyclists, and that drivers must pay attention when approaching residential areas, and especially school zones. Police say drivers must obey overhead flashing lights, make a complete stop, and ensure the roadway is clear before proceeding once pedestrians have safely crossed the roadway.
