Parts of the region under orange snow squall watch

Parts of the region are under an orange snow squall watch, according to Environment Canada.

The affected areas are:

• Bruce Peninsula – Sauble Beach – Tobermory
• Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County
• Hanover – Dundalk – Southern Grey County
• Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County
• Mount Forest – Arthur – Northern Wellington County
• Owen Sound – Blue Mountains – Northern Grey County
• Saugeen Shores – Kincardine – Southern Bruce County
• Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County
• Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

These areas are expecting snow squalls overnight and dangerous conditions late Monday.

Snowfall could reach upwards of 40 centimetres in some areas. Possible blizzard conditions Monday night and into Tuesday as well.

“Lake effect snow is expected to develop overnight close to Lake Huron and on Monday for areas farther east,” Environment Canada said.

“Of particular concern is the potential for several hours of blizzard conditions beginning late Monday afternoon. Westerly winds gusting up to 90 km/h may develop. The wind should diminish into Monday evening, but lake effect snow could continue into Wednesday.”

Cold wind chills are expected between -20 C and -25 C.

Sunday night: Flurries, risk of snow squalls overnight. Local blowing snow. Wind southwest 40 km/h gusting to 60 km/h. Low -11 C, wind chill -15 C in the evening, falling to -22 C overnight.

Monday: Flurries and snow squalls. Local blowing snow in the morning and afternoon. Wind southwest 40 km/j gusting to 60 km/h, becoming northwest and gusting up to 70 km/h around noon. High -8 C, wind chill -20 C.

Monday night: Flurries or snow squalls. Local blowing snow, windy. Low -17 C.

Tuesday: Flurries. Local blowing snow. High -12 C.

Tuesday night: Cloudy periods with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Low -17 C.

Wednesday: Periods of snow, high -2 C.

Monday: Periods of light snow, around two centimetres. Wind southwest 20 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h west by noon. High -9 C, wind chill -17 C in the morning, falling to -23 C in the afternoon.

Monday night: Cloudy periods with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. Low -19 C.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. High -12 C.

Tuesday night: Cloudy periods with 30 per cent chance of flurries. Low -17 C.

Wednesday: Periods of snow. High -1 C.
