An Ohio man charged with murder is being held in custody in Michigan after trying to cross the border into Canada, police say. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan told CTV News on Friday that Maxwell Anatra, 24, was arrested by Canadian officials after crossing the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia, Ont. According to online records, Anatra is charged with murder by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department in Ohio. Speaking with CTV News, Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent said police responded to a welfare check at a home around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Officers found the body of a 61-year-old woman inside the home and the body of a 63-year-old man in the detached garage. Kent said the deceased have been identified as the parents of Anatra, the accused. He is facing one count of murder, with prosecutors set to review the case with additional charges possible. Anatra is scheduled for an extradition hearing in Michigan at 1 p.m. on Friday.
