A filmmaker with ties to London, Ont. was victorious Sunday night at the Oscars. Director Maciek Szczerbowski moved to London from Poland at the age of 12 and finished elementary and high school here. He made The Girl Who Cried Pearls with his business partner Chris Lavis. It tells the story of a poor boy who falls in love with a mysterious young girl who cries pearls at night.
