A London student has taken home a top honour at the Canada-Wide Science Fair for his automated asteroid detecting system. Siddarth Patel won the top prize in the Discovery category for developing an automated system that detects faint moving objects in telescope images and verifies whether they are legitimate asteroids. Patel previously detected two asteroids in October. He says he hopes his new system will help amateur astronomers more easily identify and report asteroids.
