The clock is now ticking for crown attorneys to file an appeal after Thursday’s not-guilty verdicts in the world junior sexual assault trial.

After a months-long trial process, the judge acquitted each of the five players on the sexual assault charges against them.

London police had charged them based on allegations made by a woman, accusing them of assaulting her in a London hotel room back in 2018 while they were in town for a Hockey Canada gala.

There is a 30-day window for Crown lawyers to appeal the decision.

“We will carefully review Justice Carroccia’s decision and as this case is still within the appeal period we will have no further comment about the decision at this time,” said Crown Attorney Meaghan Cunningham.
