Design is being celebrated at some of the world's most prestigious museums in 2017. Here's a look at five unmissable exhibitions for design fans in the coming year.

"Frank Lloyd Wright at 150: Unpacking the Archive"
June 12 to October 1, 2017
MoMA, New York, U.S.

New York's Museum of Modern Art is paying tribute to one of the most prolific and renowned figures of 20th-century architecture with a major exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of his birth. It features 450 works dating from the 1890s to the 1950s. These include architectural drawings, models, building fragments, films, TV broadcasts, press cuttings, furniture, tableware, textiles, paintings and photos. Some objects will be on public display for the first time.

Jewelry isn't always considered a form of artistic expression in its own right. It is often perceived as too precious and decorative, and even too primitive in nature. Some artists and designers have, however, sought to reinvent the world of jewelry creation. This will be the focus of an upcoming exhibition in Paris, featuring almost 300 pieces, including works by Man Ray, Dali, Calder, Picasso, René Lalique, Anni Albers and Bless.

"The World of Charles & Ray Eames"

Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, Germany

Charles and Ray Eames are among the most influential designers of the 20th century. They have designed innovative furniture pieces, as well as industrial products, films, books multimedia installations and interiors. The Vitra Design Museum is hosting a retrospective exhibition focusing on work by the pair. In parallel, the museum will present other exhibitions and events dedicated to Charles and Ray Eames and will give insight into the Eames' object estate. It will be the largest exploration of the Eames' work that has been shown in a museum, coinciding with Charles Eames' 110th birthday.

"Designed in California" is the new "Made in Italy." The London Design Museum is exploring the current global reach of California's mid-century modernism, charting the history of the US state from counterculture movements of the 1960s to the technology of Silicon Valley.

"The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s"
April 7 to August 20, 2017
Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, New York

During the 1920s, American creativity broke out onto the global stage, notably in the worlds of design and decoration. "The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s" explores American taste in art and design in the 1920s and early 1930s, highlighting how influences from Eastern and Western Europe gave rise to a particular style. The show explores links with France's world of luxury and Austrian craftsmanship, for example.
