Toronto man charged with armed bank robbery in Guelph

Guelph police are investigating after a south-end bank was robbed early Saturday. CTV's Hannah Schmidt reports.

A Toronto man has been arrested for an armed bank robbery in Guelph.

Guelph Police did not disclose the location of the incident, only saying it happened at a south-end bank in early June.

The only incident reported publicly was on June 7. At around 8:40 a.m. that day, a man with a gun walked into the TD Bank at Gordon Street and Clair Road and demanded cash from the tellers. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

The gun was later found discarded near the bank.

Guelph Police said officers carried out multiple search warrants in Toronto on Aug. 12, following a two-month-long investigation.

A 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with robbery, as well as other gun-related offences.

Officers also seized a “substantial” quantity of cash and a luxury vehicle. Police allege both were the “proceeds of crime.”
