Guelph General Hospital is getting a $7.1 million funding boost from the provincial government. Sylvia Jones, the minister of health and deputy premier, made the announcement on Monday. She said the funds will help with staff retention and improve emergency department operations, as well as reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures. Some of the money will also be used for upgrades and repairs. “Supporting improved operations and infrastructure upgrades at Guelph General Hospital is one more way our government is ensuring local families can receive the high-quality care they need, close to home,” Jones said in a media release. More than $1 million will come from the province’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, meant to help hospitals address urgent projects, including “upgrading or replacing roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms and emergency generators.” Guelph General Hospital has undergone a major transformation over the last two years. Construction began in 2025 to relocate its mental health and addictions services unit to free up more space in the hospital’s emergency department.
