Guelph man facing more than two dozen charges tied to break-ins, assaults and dangerous driving

A Guelph man is facing more than two dozen charges following a series of police investigations involving break-ins, assaults and dangerous driving.

The Guelph Police Service launched an investigation after several incidents across the city, including a traffic stop on March 11, 2025, when officers pulled over a BMW sedan on Stone Road East. Police said the driver identified himself and was given a ticket, but officers later learned the name the driver had used was false.

In another incident on Nov. 18, police said two men entered a business on Stone Road West and tried to leave with a shopping cart filled with merchandise. When an employee tried to intervene, he was assaulted.

“The employee attempted to take a photo of the men’s car, which was driven directly at the victim causing him to fear for his safety,” police said in a media release.

Police also said apartment buildings in Guelph’s west end were entered on Dec. 25 and again on Jan. 14 using a stolen fob, and tenants’ mail was taken from inside the buildings.

“The Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit took over the investigations and was able to identify a suspect,” police said. “On Friday, just after 9 p.m., a man was located at a west-end address and arrested.”

A 38-year-old Guelph man has been charged with obstructing police, driving while suspended, assault, dangerous driving, two counts of break and enter, two counts of wearing a disguise and multiple counts of breaching a release order.

Police said the man is also wanted on five outstanding warrants from other police services, including a Canada-wide warrant from British Columbia related to property and driving offences.
