Public health officials have confirmed three additional cases of measles in Waterloo Region, bringing the total number of cases in the area to 17 since the outbreak began earlier this year. The new cases were reported since April 9, 2025. The outbreak has prompted increased efforts to ensure vaccinations are up to date among residents. Earlier this month, more than 1,600 elementary school students in Waterloo Region were suspended due to out-of-date vaccination records, as part of a public health initiative to curb the spread of the disease. Health officials are urging anyone who may have been exposed to measles or who is experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or rash to contact their healthcare provider and avoid public places to prevent further transmission.
