Dozens of bunnies are now safe thanks to the work of animal care advocates and volunteers. On Saturday, Ground Search and Rescue KW said volunteers rounded up at least 31 domesticated rabbits that had been dumped in the Innerkip area. The rescue organization was also worried there were still more rabbits that had not yet been found. Later that same day, Ground Search and Rescue KW said all the rabbits had been welcomed into temporary foster homes. “Some of these homes can only foster for a short period of time, but right now, that doesn’t matter, you gave us something incredibly valuable: TIME,” they wrote in a social media post. “Time to breathe, get organized, arrange veterinary care and figure out what comes next for these little ones.” Volunteers will now focus on getting the bunnies in for a veterinarian visit and, eventually, into permanent homes. “We are incredibly grateful to Strasburg Animal Hospital for agreeing to work with us and help take on this enormous project. With this many rabbits, the veterinary costs are going to be significant, and we’re asking our community for help once again,” the post said. Donations are being collected at the Strasburg Animal Hospital. “Today was one of those days that reminds us exactly what can happen when a community comes together,” the post concluded. “For tonight, we rest knowing they’re safe. Tomorrow, we keep going.”
