Five men arrested for scrap metal thefts in Cambridge

Five men from the Greater Toronto Area have been charged after police said they caught them stealing scrap metal from a business in Cambridge.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service launched an investigation earlier this month after a series of thefts from a business on Goddard Crescent. The total estimated loss is pegged at more than $100,000.

Police said they arrested five men who were in the process of taking metal from the business on Thursday at 11:40 p.m. Officers also seized a vehicle.

The men, aged 22, 33, 34, 40 and 55, were all from the Greater Toronto Area. They have each been charged with six counts of theft over $5,000.

Investigators believe the group could be linked to other high-value scrap metal thefts across Ontario.
