Anyone stopping by the Kitchener location of the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth may notice something new is underway. Construction has begun on the Humane Society’s new Community Outreach Centre, which is part of their Better Together Campaign. Heavy excavation work started at the Riverbend Drive site on Wednesday. Visitors may notice increased noise throughout the day, temporary disruptions to normal traffic flow and increased dust and vibration throughout the nearby area. “We recognize that this may be disruptive for visitors and community members who regularly enjoy our Centre and the surrounding Walter Bean Grand River Trail. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as this necessary work moves forward,” a social media post from the Humane Society said. The Better Together Campaign aims to triple the Humane Society’s available space for outreach programming, such as wellness education, training programs, adoption events and summer camps. The Community Outreach Centre will also include a pet pantry, donation centre, a garage for a future mobile outreach vehicle and office spaces. As of Thursday afternoon, the Humane Society had raised $4.4 million of their $6 million goal for the campaign.
