A hockey player from Waterloo will soon make her way to Denmark for the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) Women’s World Championship. Hockey Canada released the 25-player roster on Monday. Forward Cailtin Kraemer made the cut. Although she’ll be making her IIHF Women’s World Championship debut when the tournament gets underway in Denmark between Nov. 6 and Nov. 16, she’s no stranger to the international spotlight. She played for Team Canada during the 2023 and 2024 IIHF World Women’s U18 Championships. In 2024, she became an all-time top goal scorer by breaking a record with a career total of 17 goals. During the 2023 tournament, she scored the fastest hat trick ever at the event, tucking away three goals in the opening 12 minutes of the gold medal game. The Canadians will face Sweden in this first preliminary game on Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. EST. The full schedule is available online. Team Canada is in Group B alongside Denmark, Finland, Japan and Sweden. Pre-tournament games will be held in Windsor on Oct. 28 and Michigan on Oct. 30. Previously, Kraemer played for the Kitchener-Waterloo Jr. Rangers and Waterloo Ravens. She currently plays for the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
