Voters in Wellesley will have only one big council decision to make in the upcoming municipal election – who they want as the township’s mayor. Candidates for the four wards have already been decided as all four ran unopposed. When the nomination deadline closed on Friday, each was automatically acclaimed. Shelley Wagner will serve her sixth term as a councillor for Ward 1. A new face will represent Ward 2: Chris Van Bargen will take over for Lori Sebben. Derek Brick returns for a second term in Ward 3 and Claude Hergott stays on in Ward 4. In the mayoral race, there are only two candidates. Joe Nowak is seeking his fourth term as the township’s representative, while newcomer Chris Martin is advocating for new leadership. The winner will also represent the Township of Wellesley on regional council. Once voters pick their mayor, they’ll be asked to choose one trustee for the Waterloo Region District School Board, two trustees for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, one trustee for Conseil Scolaire Viamonde, and one trustee for Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.
