ARCTIC BAY, Nunavut - Two brothers are dead after the boat they were using to hunt seals capsized in waves as high as six metres off Baffin Island.

RCMP say Tommy Kalluk, who was 42, and his 46-year-old sibling, Noah Kalluk, failed to return to the remote Nunavut community of Arctic Bay late last week after a hunting trip on Admiralty Inlet.

A search plane spotted the stricken six-metre boat early Saturday morning about 25 nautical miles south of the hamlet.

The bodies of both men were found inside by a Canadian Coast Guard ship that managed to fight its way through the wind-whipped waves to get to the vessel.

Police say an initial investigation shows the hunters had engine trouble around the time they encountered rough water.

They also say no flotation devices or emergency equipment were found on board.
