Wild weather: Severe drought, tornado in Brazil, and a massive typhoon

CTV Edmonton's Josh Classen recaps a week of wild weather: a second deadly typhoon in the Phillipines, a tornado in Brazil, and drought in Iran.

Typhoon Fung-Wong lands

Another devastating typhoon has hit the Philippines.

Just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi killed hundreds of people, Typhoon Fung-Wong forced the evacuation of nearly 1.5 million people and at least eight have died.

The storm triggered flooding and mudslides as it hit the Philippines over the weekend, with wind speeds of 185 km/h and gusts to 230 km/h.

With a diameter of about 1,800 kilometres, Fung-Wong was one of the largest typhoons on record.

Hundreds injured in Brazil tornado

A tornado in Brazil killed at least six people and injured more than 700 people.

The tornado levelled the town of Rio Bonito Do Iguacu, home to around 14,000 people.

Officials say nearly 90 per cent of the community suffered damage.

Estimated wind speeds were in the 250 km/h range, which would put the tornado in the EF-3 category.

Iran sees worst drought in decades

Iran is dealing with its worst drought in decades and officials are planning for water restrictions in Tehran, a city with a population of over 10 million people.

2025 has been Tehran’s driest year in a century and half of Iran’s provinces have gone months without any rain.

The Iranian president is also warning that parts of Tehran may need to be evacuated if no rain falls before the end of the year.

The main reservoir serving Tehran has about 85-per cent less water than it did at this point last year and it could run dry in less than two weeks.
