Wild weather: Deadly tornado outbreak, floods and heat

CTV Edmonton's Josh Classen recaps a weak of tornadoes in the U.S., flooding in France and extreme heat in Pakistan.

Deadly tornadoes

The United States saw a massive outbreak of severe weather.

More than two dozen people were killed in Kentucky and Missouri as tornadoes ripped across the two states. Communities were leveled and hundreds of thousands of people lost power. At least six tornadoes were reported in the two states with several more reported elsewhere in the U.S.

Then, just days later, at least four more tornadoes hit Oklahoma and Nebraska. At least 10 homes and a fire station were completely destroyed in that tornado outbreak.

The severe storms also brought flooding that forced some highway closures.

Flooding in France

Heavy rain caused deadly flooding in southern France this past week.

Residents say they haven’t seen downpours like this in generations. One town received close to 30 centimetres of rain in one hour.

Three people were killed in the floods and there’s widespread damage across the region.

Pakistan heatwave

A severe heatwave has hit Pakistan.

After several days of temperatures in the 40s C, heat peaked over the past weekend with temperatures hitting 48 C.

Authorities are advising people to stay in doors, stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary travel.
