Wild weather: Atmospheric river flooding and historic snowfall

CTV Edmonton's Josh Classen recaps a week of wild weather: flooding in B.C. and Washington State, as well as in Iran and Iraq, and a snow dump in the Midwest.

B.C., Washington State flood

An atmospheric river has been drenching parts of British Columbia and Washington State.

Extensive flooding has been reported in parts of Washington near the town of Snoqualmie.

Flood advisories and rainfall warnings were also issued for southern B.C. and parts of Vancouver Island, including Victoria. Southwestern sections of the island received more than 100 mm (10 cm) of rain.

Heavy rain in Iraq, Iran

Heavy rain has been a gift and a curse in Iraq and Iran.

Parts of Iran have been suffering through an historic drought. Reservoirs supplying Tehran are at less than 5-per cent capacaity and on the verge of drying out. So, the rain will help that situation.

Elsewhere, the downpours have led to significant flooding as some areas have seen upwards of 150 mm (15cm) of rain over the course of several days.

Snow dump in Midwest

Parts of the U.S. Midwest got hit with up to 20 cm of snow this past week.

Chicago has had over 40 cm of snow in the past few weeks and that’s the most snow that city has seen up to this point in December in almost 50 years.
