Wildfire damage has delayed the opening of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (UCHV). The museum was supposed to open on May 17, but a wildfire that broke out on April 18 and spread to the property destroyed the visitor centre at the site. “Alberta’s government is committed to reopening the site when it is safe and appropriate to do so,” UCHV said in a post on social media. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and truly appreciate your understanding at this time and look forward to welcoming you back when we can open our doors again.” UCHV says the annual Celebration of Dance event has been cancelled as a result of the delay. The Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society has announced a silent auction for May 15 to help UCHV recover from the fire.
