The City of St. Albert is telling people to stay away from the Sturgeon River as low-lying portions of the trail are flooded and closed. Heavy rain in the area has left the riverbank unstable and water levels continue to rise, the city said in a news release Tuesday. Rising water in the river has forced the city to implement flood mitigation measures for low-lying areas. That includes installing barriers along the north bank of the river between the Perron Street Bridge and St. Albert Trail Bridge. If you do plan to go to the river for boating you should stay away from objects that might be unstable and give space to city crews working near the river. People should also avoid these trail closures: Some storm water management facilities are also seeing high water levels, people should avoid doing any activities as water currents and levels can be unpredictable.
