A man has been charged in connection with the slashing of a tent at the Heritage Festival on Aug. 3. According to Edmonton police, the man climbed over metal security fencing around the Israel pavilion at about 3 p.m. and cut the tent with a knife. The man was detained by festival security until police arrived and arrested him. The Edmonton Police Crimes Unit investigated the slashing and determined there wasn’t enough evidence to indicate it was motivated by hate. The man was charged with mischief under $5,000 and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released on conditions. “We are grateful to Edmonton police for its work investigating the incident at the Israel pavilion at Heritage Fest and laying charges in the matter,” Jewish Edmonton said in a social media post Wednesday evening. “We appreciate the dedication of the investigators involved and will continue to monitor the judicial process as it moves forward.
