A sinkhole in Leduc nearly swallowed up two vehicles on Thursday. The sinkhole opened up in the parking lot of the MacEwan Greens apartment building in the Deer Valley neighbourhood. A photo submitted by a viewer showed two vehicles half-fallen into the hole, which had been removed by early Friday morning. Christina Forrester was walking her dogs when she saw what happened. “Absolute shock. I had walked by an hour before, everything was fine. I came back out and poof,” Forrester said. She says when a car came around the corner to park in their spot, the gravel gave out underneath. The hole has since been fenced off, it’s unclear what caused the sinkhole. CTV News Edmonton reached out to the property managers of the building but didn’t hear back. The City of Leduc says it is not aware of any injuries that resulted from the sinkhole. A spokesperson also noted that the sinkhole opened up on private property and said any infrastructure under the parking lot was not installed or owned by the city. Another neighbour who lives in the area isn’t too worried his car could be next. “We have one here (the parking lot) and we also keep one underground so our vehicles will be safe, hopefully, because it could happen over there. It’s a freak accident,” said Ken Cochrane. While the hole awaits to be fixed up, Forrester thinks there could be one use for the unwelcomed hole. “It would make a great pool!”
