RCMP searching for suspect in hit-and-run in Fort McMurray

Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating a hit-and-run from earlier this summer in Fort McMurray.

On July 29 around 9:50 p.m., police received a report of a eastbound vehicle driving on Hospital Street at an “excessive speed.”

The vehicle crashed into another vehicle stopped at traffic lights at the intersection of Franklin Avenue downtown, police said in a Wednesday news release.

The driver cut across the median and fled the scene, heading westbound on Hospital Street onto Crescent Heights.

Three people were inside the stopped vehicle at the time of the crash and no injuries were reported, police said.

Police are asking for help identifying the vehicle. It’s described as grey and believed to be a 2010-2014 Kia Sportage and would have damage to the front end.
