A person is in stable condition after being shot by a police officer in northern Alberta on Tuesday. Mounties say a call was received about a domestic violence situation involving a weapon from the 5600 block of 54 Street in Cold Lake at 9:47 a.m. Officers responded to the scene and encountered a person with a weapon. One of the officers discharged their service pistol, striking the suspect. They were taken to hospital in stable condition. No officers were injured. The investigation into the officer’s conduct has now been turned over to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), which investigates incidents involving police officers that result in serious injury or death. RCMP will also conduct an internal review of the incident. Cold Lake is 300 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
