Police cruisers rammed in break-and-enter at Alberta business

An Edmonton man is facing charges after a break-and-enter at a business and a crash involving two police vehicles.

On Thursday at 2:12 a.m., Fort Saskatchewan RCMP responded to a break-and-enter in progress at a business at 99 Avenue and 100 Street.

As they were doing so, they were notified by Strathcona RCMP that police in Sherwood Park had responded to a similar break-and-enter and the suspect was believed to be headed to Fort Saskatchewan.

As police arrived at the business the thief took off in a pickup truck.

According to a news release, the pickup rammed two police cruisers before driving off on Highway 15 towards Edmonton.

Police chased and ultimately stopped the truck in Sturgeon County using a tire deflation device.

A 43-year-old Edmonton man was arrested and charged with:

• two counts of assault on a police officer;
• breaking and entering to a business;
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
• flight from a peace officer; and
• two counts of mischief over $5,000 to a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Fort Saskatchewan on June 4.
