Edmonton police have charged 20-year-old Gulied Ahmed Umar with second-degree murder in connection to a homicide in the city’s core last month. Just before 9 p.m. on Oct. 8, police responded to reports of gun shots in the area of 107 Avenue and 108 Street. Officers located 42-year-old Andrew Donald McCabe injured outside of a residence. Life-saving measures were administered but he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed that McCabe died of a gunshot wound. A news release sent Thursday said Umar was charged on Oct. 18 and is to appear in court on Nov. 24.
