The Edmonton Oil Kings are looking to surpass last year’s donation of 2,500 pounds of non-perishables to the food bank at Monday’s Thanksgiving game. Fans are encouraged to bring pasta, macaroni and cheese or any other food item to be used as a noise maker at Rogers Place during the game and then donate them after. Kevin Radomski, director of business operations for the Oil Kings, said the drive has increased donations each year. “We’re trending upwards, but so is the need at Edmonton’s Food Bank,” Radomski told CTV News Edmonton. If you forget your non-perishable item at home, boxes of pasta will be available for $5, with all proceeds going to the Food Bank. Marjorie Bencz, executive director of Edmonton’s Food Bank, said they are serving over 40,000 people through its hamper program on top of supplying shelters and other food programs across the city. “This food drive is really important to us because of the continuous, ongoing need that we’re seeing in the community,” said Bencz. “The Oil Kings create awareness of our need, which is really appreciated, but also help us raise valuable food and funds at this time, at Thanksgiving.” The Oil Kings and Lethbridge Hurricanes face off at noon on Thanksgiving Monday.
