A cooler-than-average pattern is settling for the rest of the week with afternoon highs in the 16 to 21 C range. (The average high for mid-August is 23 C.) AND... we’ll likely get some rain every day this week. Edmonton is closing in on 700 mm of precipitation for the year, which would make this the second-wettest year on record (behind only 1900’s 725 mm) and we’re not even through August yet. Fog patches in the Edmonton region and surrounding areas will dissipate by mid-morning, and an area of rain west of the city will likely push into the area by late this morning/midday. I don’t think that rain will stick around all afternoon. We’ll likely get some breaks in the cloud mid to late afternoon and just a slight chance of a scattered shower or thunderstorm late this afternoon/evening. Scattered showers/thunderstorms will be very hit-and-miss across north-central parts of the province. Most of the showers and thunderstorms this evening should be around Red Deer and south (with a chance of severe storms in southern Alberta once again). Wednesday starts out with some fog patches and sunny breaks. But, we’ll see another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms across north-central Alberta in the afternoon Wednesday. An area of low pressure will sweep across southern Alberta on Thursday. Most of the heavier, steadier rain should stay in the southern and eastern parts of the province. That said, there’s a good chance of a few showers in the Edmonton area Thursday and possibly into Friday morning. High pressure settles in for the weekend, bringing some clearing for late Friday and Saturday/Sunday. So...a little bit sunnier and warmer, with temperatures starting to climb back closer to average this weekend. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Mostly cloudy.
