The torch has been passed to the province’s new commander of the RCMP. Trevor Daroux officially took over as deputy commissioner of the police force’s Alberta division on Thursday in a formal ceremony held at Edmonton’s Lt.-Col. Philip L. Debney Armoury. Daroux assumes the post from Rob Hill, who had been on the job for less than a year after officially taking over from Curtis Zablocki in August 2024. Hill announced his retirement in late March. The RCMP named Daroux as his replacement two weeks later. Daroux was serving as assistant commander and was the division’s criminal operations officer before he was appointed Alberta deputy commander. He joined the RCMP in 2017 after 27 years with the Calgary Police Service. The Alberta division is the RCMP’s second-largest. It has close to 4,200 employees in 113 detachments that serve more than 1.5 million people.
