A new Staircase Feature Exhibition focused on unravelling trauma opened this week at the Art Gallery of St. Albert. Zana Wensel’s Knotty Enigmas is about people not processing trauma, grief and loss and how those feelings can get lodged inside the body. “It started with a feeling, a knot in the pit of my stomach, a certain tightness. The mother knot, the knot of all knots, a mass with many, many lines coming from it, knotted themselves, intertwined with others,” said Wensel in a press release. Knotty Enigmas aims to speak toward the need of people caring for both their minds and bodies, as an act of healing. “I used to think that the thread running through my practice was the trauma, but no. It is the soul. It is the soul pulling me forward to follow that thread,” said Wensel. Knotty Enigmas will run until April 25.
