The City of Edmonton has bought 32 light-rail vehicles (LRVs) from South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) for the Metro Line and Capital Line expansions. Some of the 32 will also replace 45-year-old Siemens U2 LRVs currently in operation. The contract was signed in Edmonton Tuesday morning. Design will begin later this year and the vehicles will be delivered in 2029 and 2030. HRC was one of three shortlisted proponents in the international procurement process and received the highest total score. The company is also manufacturing 46 low-floor LRVs for Valley Line West. That contract was awarded in 2021.
