Hundreds of holiday meals ready for delivery

As food prices continue to increase, the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton is asking for more support as it deals with unprecedented demand.

Hundreds of holiday meals were packed in Edmonton on Thursday.

The Christmas Bureau of Edmonton and volunteers were aiming to pack about 1,800 food hampers throughout the day at St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School.

“We’re starting with all the canned goods, juices, making the way down the line with pastas, carrots, potatoes – everything families will need to have a great Christmas meal,” said Brienne Patton Harper, spokesperson for the Oilers Entertainment Group, which helps every year.

“The need is really remarkable and we’re just happy to play a small part in helping Edmontonians get a great meal.”

The Christmas Bureau says it is seeing a “significant need” for its services.

In 2024, it provided 49,000 people with a holiday meal and 6,000 teens with a gift card.
