Edmontonians can once again step back in time and experience the city’s pioneer past at Fort Edmonton Park, which re-opens its doors to visitors this weekend. Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday and summer hours will be in effect until mid-September. “We’re proud to open our gates for another season and to continue bringing history to life,” Alan Nursall with Fort Edmonton Park said in a press release. “Whether it’s your first visit or a return to a family favourite, there’s something new and exciting to experience at every turn.” Opening weekend at the history park will have added family-fun festivities including live performances, street theatre and face painting. A Red River jig and children’s tea party are listed on the calendar for the Victoria Day weekend. In a push for local visitors to “rediscover Edmonton,” Fort Edmonton Park is offering 10 percent off daily admissions and a membership pass providing access to the park all year, food and merchandise discounts and early access to events. Fort Edmonton Park and the Fort Edmonton Foundation are also celebrating the lead-up to opening weekend with an online contest on their social media. People can enter for the chance to win daily prizes including free park admission, family memberships, wagon rides and free ice cream. More information about the park and events can be found on their website. Park tickets can also be purchased in advance online or at the front gate.
