Wood Buffalo RCMP issued an update Saturday night on Highway 63, saying it’s open in both directions but that travel is still not recommended. “All roadways continue to be in extremely poor condition due to winter weather, ice and snow,” they said in a 6:52 p.m. release. The poor road conditions have left multiple vehicles, including semi-trucks, stuck on the highway north of Fort McMurray. “Traffic is at a standstill in both directions along various locations,” a news release from just before 9 a.m. said. Anyone driving in the Fort McMurray area should expect delays, Mounties added, and postpone travel if possible or check 511 for up-to-date road information. Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for northeastern Alberta, including Wood Buffalo, on Friday afternoon. Officials were calling for 10 to 15 cm of snow. Precipitation was expected to taper off Saturday evening.
