The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for Baekdu Peak-brand enoki mushrooms in Alberta and B.C. due to possible listeria monocytogenes contamination. Food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness, said a notice posted by the federal agency Monday. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Those who are pregnant, elderly or have weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. The infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of a newborn or still birth. Severe cases can be fatal. People are advised to not consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled products.
