Edmonton skies to see military helicopters next week

Residents in the Edmonton area may notice some noise from above next week when combat helicopters for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) travel to a training mission.

Six CH-146 Griffons from the 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron are slated to fly from Edmonton to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, as part of Exercise Striking Bat, a large-scale, month-long and multinational training event.

They will fly through the area between Monday and Wednesday.

It’s intended to help military personnel, including those from the RCAF, prepare for operations in Arctic and sub-Arctic environments. United States Army aviation personnel and soldiers from countries including Norway, Italy and Mongolia will also participate in the exercises.
