Double digits ahead of mid-week snow

Temperatures rise and then snow falls.

Tuesday night and Wednesday are looking snowy for central and north-central Alberta, although snowfall accumulation is still a bit uncertain.

Ahead of that, we’ll climb to a high of about 14 C in Edmonton this afternoon. Morning sun will give way to some increasing late-day cloudcover.

Scattered showers are possible in and around the city late this afternoon and/or early this evening.

A few isolated thunderstorms are also possible in the Red Deer region around suppertime.

Further north, we’ll have some snow falling in in the High Level area and some mixed precipitation is likely in the Fort McMurray area with evening showers in the Cold Lake/Bonnyville area.

Cloudy and cooler for Tuesday with a daytime high in the 4-8 C range depending on precipitation.

There’s a chance of some showers or mixed precipitation in the morning hours around Edmonton (better chance for some wet snow to the northwest near Whitecourt).

Then... an even better chance of some rain in the evening turning to snow overnight in the Edmonton region.

A broad band of snow is expected to stretch west to east across the province along and north of Highway 16.

Areas from Grande Cache/Hinton east to Cold Lake/Lloydminster will likely see snow Tuesday night and through Wednesday morning.

That band of snow could lie right over the Edmonton through the day Wednesday giving us periods of snow.

On top of that, temperatures will hover around the freezing mark or just slight below 0 C and wind is expected to be gusting to around 30 km/h.

So, after a warm start to the week, we’ll get a blast of some colder, snowy and windy conditions for Wednesday.

Expect terrible road/driving conditions through all the affected areas...including in the city.

Temperatures stay on the cool side Thursday before starting to rebound through Friday and the weekend.
