Collective Soul slated to play River Cree in July

The Edmonton spotlight is set to Shine in late July on a group of 1990s hit rockers.

The River Cree Resort and Casino’s The Venue is scheduled to host Collective Soul on Tuesday, July 28.

The American rock band’s breakthrough hit Shine garnered heavy airplay soon after it was released in the spring of 1994, with other hits – including Where the River Flows, December, The World I Know and Heavy – following over the rest of the decade.

Their first four albums, released between 1993 and 1999, each earned Recording Industry Association of America platinum certifications for selling one million or more copies, the first two selling two million and three million, respectively.

The band has continued to record and perform since – having released nine albums this century, including this year’s Touch and Go – and features three members of the 1990s lineup, including brothers Ed (lead singer and primary songwriter) and Dean Roland (rhythm guitar).

Tickets to the 18-plus show will go on sale on Friday.

Their upcoming four-month tour starts next week in Ludington, Mich., and takes them throughout the United States and Canada.
