City ramps up volunteer weed pulling events this spring, summer

Annual volunteer weed pulls are underway in Edmonton.

The City of Edmonton is scheduled to host more than 50 of them and other related events this spring and summer, according to a Tuesday media release.

Residents who participate will learn more about invasive species of weeds while helping remove them from several areas, including the Mill Creek Ravine, the Mactaggart Sanctuary, Terwillegar Park, the Larch Sanctuary and Hermitage Park.

Volunteers can sign up online for weed pulls, invasive plant walks and other events.

Some invasive weeds found in Edmonton park areas include Himalayan balsam, creeping bellflower, purple loosestrife and garlic mustard.
