It should be a nice start to the weekend in Edmonton and area. We’ll see temperatures return to the 20s Friday and Saturday. Highs will be in the 23/24 C degree range and we have some sunshine for at least the first half of Friday. Cloudcover is expected to increase through the afternoon though. Air quality got a bit worse from Edmonton northwest through to Peace River with AQHI reading in the “moderate risk” range. I’m not entirely certain where that smoke is coming from, but it appears to be coming out of the Northwest Territories and not BC. That said, the smoke modelling is hinting at the possibility of some BC wildfire smoke moving into central Alberta Friday night and Saturday. Bottom line: I guess it doesn’t really matter where it’s coming from; AQHI forecasts keep the Edmonton region in the “moderate risk” range through Friday and Saturday. We’re anticipating some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop in west-central Alberta later today. There’s a non-zero chance of seeing a shower or thunderstorm in the Edmonton area tonight, but that risk looks low. Saturday should be decent for most of the day - Mix of Sun and Cloud (a bit hazy). But there’s a good chance of some showers and/or thunderstorms moving into the Edmonton region Saturday night (probably after midnight). Those storms will fire up in western AB late Saturday and then move east. Sunday’s precipitation outlook is still highly uncertain, especially the timing. I think there’s a better chance that we get SOME precipitation than NONE. There could be some lingering rain early Sunday morning, then it look to be a little more “hit-n-miss” midday and early afternoon. The late-afternoon/evening hours have a bit better chance for showers/thunderstorms. The long-range outlook for Monday/Tuesday is still trending cooler (highs in the upper teens) with a chance of showers or rain for one or both days.
