An audio recording of Justin Bone was played at his second-degree murder trial on Wednesday. Bone is accused of killing Ban Phuc Hoang, 61, and Hung Trang, 64, in Edmonton’s Chinatown in separate incidents on May 18, 2022. The recording is of Bone being transported from the Edmonton Police Service downtown division to the detainee management unit for a bail hearing. Bone can be heard groaning as well as yelling unintelligible comments throughout the recording. The officer who transported him told the court Bone had a bit of a limp and needed help getting to the vehicle. A paramedic can be heard asking Bone what’s wrong and Bone said he didn’t know. At one point Bone said it’s spiritual and made a comment about the devil. Several officers who interacted with Bone during that time were called as witnesses. The judge still has to determine if their evidence and the recording is admissible.
