If you take a drive along Webster Boulevard in Innisfil you won’t miss it - a massive pile of trash that keeps growing by the day, right in the middle of a new subdivision. The mountain of unwanted garbage is now spilling onto the unassumed road itself. The pile has everything from a hot tub to regular household trash to toys. It even has the bathroom sink. “Hopefully people realize this is unacceptable,” says Darren O’Neill, an Innisfil Resident who lives nearby. “People that are doing this should be ashamed of themselves. It’s unbelievable, you live in a community close to a residential area and you keep dumping garbage.” O’Neill first noticed the illegal dumpsite last week. He’s been posting updates online. He’s even contacted the town’s deputy mayor who joined him at the site over the weekend. “It shows no love for the community. It shows no respect to the neighbours,” Innisfil Deputy Mayor says Ken Fowler. “It’s just downright wrong.” Fowler says he has been told there was a green garbage bin in the area that has since been removed, but the trash remains as people keep dumping garbage at the site. A video recorded by nearby surveillance shows a driver making not one, not two, but three drops offs. The camera was put in place by a developer in the area. That developer tells CTV News it makes sure its garbage bins are left behind fencing to avoid situations just like this. Despite that, the town says the developer has agreed to clean the mess up as it is technically responsible for the roadway while it works in the area. The town says it is also trying to determine who is responsible for this mess. “The landfill is less than 20 minutes away. I’ve driven there numerous times myself and the fact of the matter is for someone to do this is uncontainable. It shows no care for the community, it shows a complete lack of respect,” says Fowler. “That’s ridiculous, they make dumping spots for stuff like that, like the dump,” says Justin Eddy, an Innisfil resident who drove by the mess Tuesday morning. If you have something like this in your neighbourhood, the Town of Innisfil would like to hear from you. If you happen to notice someone dumping garbage illegally, you are encouraged not to approach. Simply document and report it.
