To accommodate the construction of the Capital Line South LRT extension, 9 Avenue west of 111 Street will be closed for about 10 weeks. The closure, expected to start around Aug. 16, is necessary for removals, drainage, ductbank, utility work, and road and track work. Vehicles will be detoured to the recently re-opened 12 Avenue during the closure. Southbound traffic will not be able to turn left onto 12 Avenue East due to the single southbound lane. Traffic will be detoured using 9 Avenue East. Five traffic lanes will be open at 12 Avenue West: Pedestrians and cyclists travelling north and south can still use the crosswalk on the west side of 111 Street and 9 Avenue. Walkways may shift as construction progresses. Bus route 713 will detour to 113 Street and 12 Avenue. There will be no parking on the east side of 113 Street to maintain bus access. Bus stop #4132 at 112A Street and eastbound 9 Avenue will be closed temporarily. One lane remains open in each direction on 111 Street at the Blackmud Creek bridge until the fall. The city is asking drivers to use alternative routes to help improve traffic flow in the area.
