Homes were spending an average of 36 days on the market and the total residential inventory at the end of May was 7,844, up 13.4 per cent from April. In June, the Bank of Canada held the key interest rate at 2.25 per cent for the fifth time since October. “The Bank of Canada finds itself balancing conflicting economic signals,” said Phil Soper, president and CEO of Royal LePage. “On one hand, May’s employment report delivered a surprisingly strong 156,000 new full-time jobs. On the other, Canada has now entered a technical recession following two consecutive quarters of economic contraction. “There is a silver lining in the current state of Canada’s housing market.
